Message from the Chairman
Chairman
Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates
Mr Kwan Kee

The Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA) is delighted to announce that the “Hong Kong International Airport ‧ Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon: Three-Runway System 10km International Race” will be held on 17 November 2024.

As early as 1998, before Hong Kong International Airport swung into operation, we organised the “Standard Chartered ‘98 New Airport Marathon”, which attracted over 6,400 runners. At the time, the event recorded the highest number of participants for a long-distance running race in Hong Kong. Today, we can witness HKAAA, Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited (“Standard Chartered Hong Kong”), and the Airport Authority Hong Kong collaborating once again to host the 10km International race before the three runways at the airport are in operation.

As the name suggest, the “Three-Runway System 10km International Race” allows runners to run on the runway of Hong Kong International Airport. The race features “10km Challenge (Women Elite)”, “10km Challenge”, “5km Challenge”, “3km” and “10km Wheelchair”, with a total of 12,000 quotas. Runners will have the unique opportunity to set foot on the Centre Runway, and race with aircraft taking off and landing nearby, allowing them to experience the grandeur of one of the finest and busiest airports in the world.

At the same time, HKAAA has specially invited several world-class athletes to compete in the “Women’s 10km Challenge”. These elite runners not only elevate the level of the race but also aim to break world records. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Finally, on behalf of the HKAAA, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the title sponsors Standard Chartered Hong Kong and the Airport Authority Hong Kong for their support of this event. I would also like to thank all the sponsors, Government departments, volunteers, participants, and the general public for their support, which has made the “Three-Runway System 10km International Race” possible. See you guys on the runway on 17 November!
